The School of Mechanical Engineering of Xi’an University of Technology traces its origins to the undergraduate programs in machine tools and cutting tools established in 1958. With a long and distinguished history, the School has developed over nearly seven decades into a comprehensive school integrating mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, measurement, control, and management technologies.
The School consists of the Department of Mechanical Design, the Department of Mechanical Manufacturing, the Department of Testing and Control, the Department of Intelligent Systems Engineering, and the Department of Engineering Graphics. It has established more than ten industry–academia–research bases, including the Key Laboratory of NC Machine Tools and Mechanical Manufacturing Equipment Integration of the Ministry of Education, the Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Mechanical Equipment, and the Shaanxi Talent Introduction Base for Intelligent Equipment Testing and Reliability Evaluation. Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation and Industrial Engineering have been selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation has passed China Engineering Education Accreditation twice.
The School has a postdoctoral research station in Mechanical Engineering and is authorized to confer doctoral degrees in Mechanical Engineering as a first-level discipline, covering four second-level doctoral disciplines: Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation, Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Design and Theory, and Vehicle Engineering. In 2021, the School was also approved to offer a professional doctoral degree program in Mechanical Engineering. It currently has 157 faculty members, including more than 77 with senior professional titles, 13 doctoral supervisors, and 25 master’s supervisors. More than 20 faculty members have been recognized through national, provincial, or ministerial talent programs and honors, including the Shaanxi “Three-Five Talents” Program, experts with outstanding contributions, National Young Top-Notch Talents of the “Ten Thousand Talents Program,” recipients of the “Young Outstanding Talent” support program, distinguished teachers, model teachers of professional ethics, and outstanding teachers.
Guided by the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, the School has continuously deepened education and teaching reform. It has developed two national-level and eight provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses, one national-level and four provincial-level model courses for curriculum-based ideological and political education, won six national and provincial teaching achievement awards, developed two provincial excellent textbooks, published 15 textbooks, and received a second prize in the National Teaching Innovation Competition for University Teachers. Over the past five years, the School has undertaken two provincial teaching reform projects, one emerging engineering education project, one Ministry of Education industry–university collaborative education project, and one provincial graduate education project.
Over the past three years, the School has undertaken more than 300 research projects, including National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, major national special projects, key R&D projects, provincial and ministerial projects, and enterprise-commissioned projects. It has published more than 800 academic papers, including over 100 papers in top-tier journals.
Upholding the educational philosophy of “Cultivating Virtue, Pursuing Truth, Persevering with Self-Reliance, Innovating Boldly, and Striving for Excellence,” as well as the motto of the “Three Stricts and Three Earnests,” the School is committed to serving national and regional socioeconomic development strategies and industrial needs. With a focus on strengthening internal capacity and improving talent cultivation, the School strives to become a first-class, innovation-driven institution with national leadership and international recognition.

The School has a postdoctoral research station in Mechanical Engineering and is authorized to confer doctoral degrees in Mechanical Engineering as a first-level discipline. The doctoral program covers four second-level disciplines: Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation, Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Design and Theory, and Vehicle Engineering. It has also established five major research directions: design theories and methods for high-end equipment, new principles and methods of advanced manufacturing, fundamental theories and methods of mechanical design, manufacturing process inspection and control, and intelligent manufacturing and systems integration. These disciplines and research directions support a complete bachelor’s–master’s–doctoral training system.
For the professional doctoral degree program in Mechanical Engineering, four major research directions have been developed: high-performance manufacturing and equipment, modern engineering materials and equipment, intelligent inspection and control engineering, and intelligent equipment and systems integration. The program aims to cultivate high-level, application-oriented future leaders in equipment manufacturing who possess strong political integrity, solid theoretical foundations, outstanding technical competence, strong engineering innovation capabilities, and the ability to solve complex engineering problems, while embodying the School’s distinctive features of humanity, diligence, and academic rigor.
