School of Electrical Engineering

School of Electrical Engineering

Profile

The School of Electrical Engineering of Xi’an University of Technology was established in October 2019 through the merger of the former Department of Electrical Engineering from the School of Automation and the former Department of Power Engineering from the School of Water Resources and Hydro-electric Engineering. Its academic origins can be traced back to related programs founded in 1958 at Beijing Institute of Machinery and in 1960 at Shaanxi University of Technology.

The school has a complete disciplinary system, with authorization to confer the doctoral degree program in the Electrical Engineering (first-level discipline), the master's degree program and post-doctoral research station for first-level disciplines, and is recognized as a key predominant discipline in Shaanxi Province. In the fourth round of the national discipline evaluation, the discipline received a C+ rating, and it made new progress in the fifth round. The school comprises 5 teaching and research units, including the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Power Electronics and Electrical Machines, together with the Electrical Engineering Experimental Center, and has established high-level research platforms such as a university–enterprise jointly built national key laboratory and a national-local joint engineering laboratory.

It has a strong faculty team of 110 members, including 23 professors and 41 associate professors, with 5 high-level talents at the national or provincial/ministerial level and 6 foreign visiting or honorary professors. The school currently enrolls more than 2,000 students, including over 1,500 undergraduates and nearly 500 master’s and doctoral students. It offers 3 majors for bachelor’s degree: Electrical Engineering and Automation, Smart Grid Information Engineering, and Energy Storage Science and Engineering. Electrical Engineering and Automation is a national level specialty program, one of the first national first‑class demonstration point for the bachelor’s degree, and has been included in the National Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program.

Research focuses on power electronics and special power supply equipment, distributed generation and smart energy, power system operation and control, and electrical control for rail transit. In recent years, the school has undertaken more than 320 government-funded projects and over 410 enterprise-commissioned projects, including 48 National Natural Science Foundation Projects; secured RMB 220 million in research funding; won 20 provincial or ministerial-level science and technology awards; published more than 1,430 high-level papers; been granted 261 invention patents; and commercialized 31 patents.

It maintains extensive international exchange and cooperation with universities and research institutions in Germany, France, Japan, the United States, Canada, Australia, and other countries. Over the past three years, nearly 200 faculty visits and nearly 30 student visits have been made abroad for academic conferences and exchanges.
