The School of Mathematics, Xi’an University of Technology has a long academic tradition tracing back to the foundational department established in 1949. The Faculty of Science was formed based on the department in 1995, and after three decades of development, the School of Mathematics was officially established in 2025 to begin a new chapter in discipline development and talent cultivation.
The school comprises the Department of Fundamental Mathematics, the Department of Applied Mathematics, and the Department of Computing and Data Science, and hosts 2 centers including the Shaanxi Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Mathematics and Statistics as well as a mathematical modeling base. It offers 3 majors for bachelor’s degree (Information and Computational Science, Applied Statistics, and Data Science and Big Data Technology), with Information and Computational Science being designated as a national first‑class demonstration point for the bachelor’s degree.
In 2021, the school was authorized to confer the doctoral degree program in Mathematics (first‑level discipline); focusing on 4 second-level disciplines, it has developed six distinctive research directions and established a complete “bachelor - master - doctoral” training system. With the faculty totaling 79 members, including 33 members with senior professional titles, 11 doctoral advisors and 30 master’s advisors, it gathers various high-level talents including national experts and provincial teaching masters to form a high‑level team with academic leaders as the core and young and mid‑career researchers as the main force.
The school remains committed to moral education and student development while advancing pedagogical reform; it has developed 1 national first‑class course and 2 provincial flagship courses, maintains a provincial engineering mathematics teaching team, has won 1 first-prize and 1 second-prize for provincial teaching achievements, and published 3 textbooks (including 1 second prize for provincial excellent textbook). Over the past five years, it has undertaken more than 10 national and provincial teaching reform projects and won the second prize in the National University Mathematics Micro‑Course Teaching Design Competition.
Research achievements are notable: In the past five years, the school has undertaken over 20 National Natural Science Foundation projects and more than 30 provincial and ministerial projects, published over 300 academic papers, received 3 provincial and ministerial research awards and 5 bureau‑level awards, and been granted more than 20 national invention patents.
As the core basic‑discipline hub of the university, the school focuses on the interdisciplinary field of “Mathematics + Engineering” by leveraging its strengths in engineering to build an end‑to‑end development model. Adhering to the principle of “strengthening fundamentals, promoting interdisciplinarity, emphasizing application,” it is committed to inheriting mathematical culture, exploring scientific frontiers, cultivating innovative talent, and serving social development, with the goal of becoming a leading mathematics research center and a high‑level interdisciplinary talent training base in western China.
