School of Materials Science and Engineering

As one of the earliest academic units established at Xi’an University of Technology, the School of Materials Science and Engineering consists of 4 teaching departments - the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Department of Materials Forming and Control, Department of Materials Physics and Chemistry, and Department of Energy Materials and Devices, as well as a Materials Science and Engineering Experimental Center primarily dedicated to undergraduate experimental teaching. It also has a post-doctoral research station in Materials Science and Engineering. The school hosts 15 national, provincial, ministerial key research bases, including 1 national discipline innovation and talent introduction bases and 2 Shaanxi provincial innovation and talent introduction bases, 4 Xi’an municipal key laboratories, and 1 “Shechtman Nobel Prize Institute for Advanced Materials.”

In recent years, faculty members have undertaken major special projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Key R&D Programs, National Natural Science Foundation Projects, and other research programs, with annual research funding exceeding RMB 60 million. The school has received more than 60 national and provincial/ministerial science and technology awards, including 7 national awards. It has 130 full-time teachers, including 35 professors and 57 associate professors, 130 members hold doctoral degrees, forming a well-structured and strong academic team. The school has been home to 7 national talent honorees, including 1 foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 5 experts recognized for outstanding contributions at the national and Shaanxi provincial levels, and 3 Ministry of Education New Century Excellent Talents, as well as over 40 provincial-level talent honorees. It also has 1 Shaanxi provincial teaching master, 1 provincial exemplar of teacher ethics, and 1 provincial model of Teacher Ethics, together with 10 teaching and research teams such as a teacher team in the spirit of Huang Danian in Shaanxi universities, a Shaanxi top-talent and innovation team, a Sanqin Scholars innovation team, and key provincial science and technology innovation teams.

Over the past five years, students have won more than 70 national-level awards in extracurricular academic and scientific innovation projects and various competitions. These include 6 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 11 bronze medals in the national finals of the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition, as well as more than 40 awards in national disciplinary competitions such as metallographic skills, materials heat treatment innovation and entrepreneurship, casting process, and failure analysis competition.
