Profile

The Department of Physical Education currently has 47 faculties, including 42 teachers (2 professors and 20 associate professors), as well as 5 administrative and teaching support members. It is a team characterized by strong collaboration, outstanding professional competence, and an enterprising spirit. The department has 5 national-level referees, 3 national-level fitness instructors, and 2 elite athletes. Since 2011, the department has won 1 third prize in the National Demonstration Activity of Teaching and Training Skills for University PE Teachers; won 1 team first prize, 1 individual first prize, 2 second prizes, and 3 third prizes in the National University PE Ideological and Political Teaching Competition; and won 5 first prizes, 2 second prizes, 6 third prizes, and 3 excellence awards in the Shaanxi University PE Teachers’ Skills Competition. It has been recognized by the Ministry of Education as an outstanding unit in implementing the Regulations on School Physical Education, a national sports culture research base, and the first national student orienteering demonstration unit in Northwest China. The department has hosted the 4th National City Games and provincial university competitions in athletics, swimming, football, table tennis, and other sports, and has received commendations many times from provincial and municipal governments and the Education Department.


The College Physical Education course offered by the department has been recognized as both an university-level excellent course and a flagship course, and was named the first provincial-level flagship course in the field of university physical education in Shaanxi. The department has won 3 second prizes for teaching achievements in Shaanxi Province and 4 university-level teaching achievement awards. From 2016 to 2025, the department led or participated in 84 research projects at various levels, published 26 textbooks, produced 238 academic papers over the past decade, and received 31 research awards.


University sports teams coached by the department have achieved outstanding results and repeatedly delivered excellent performances. The university’s elite swimming team has won more than 90 national medals, broken national collegiate records 40 times, and been honored as a “Shaanxi Provincial Youth Commando Unit.” The orienteering team has won multiple national team championships, with 3 members selected for the national team, and has been awarded the titles of “Outstanding Contributing Unit” and “National Advanced Unit for Student Orienteering” by the Orienteering Branch of the Chinese University Sports Association. The table tennis team won a national gold medal in the men’s singles event of Division A. Teams in athletics, cheerleading, taekwondo, martial arts, and other sports have won 5 gold medals/first prizes, 15 silver medals/second prizes, and 18 bronze medals in national competitions, along with 79 finishes from fourth to eighth place; in provincial competitions, they have won 41 gold medals/first prizes, 72 silver medals/second prizes, and 98 bronze medals, together with 218 finishes from fourth to eighth place.
