Established in April 2020 with the approval of the Ministry of Education, International Engineering College of Xi’an University of Technology was is a Sino‑foreign cooperative education institution (not an independent legal entity) jointly founded by Xi’an University of Technology and James Cook University, Australia, and also is one of the earliest such institutions in China’s central and western regions that offer multi‑level degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels, with an enrollment of 1,200 students.

As our partner university, James Cook University (JCU) is one of Australia’s top national research universities, the second‑oldest university in Queensland, and a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). JCU demonstrates advanced teaching and research strengths in fields of mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electronic systems and the Internet of Things (IoT), electrical and electronic engineering, and data science, etc.

The International Engineering College offers four majors for the Bachelor’s degree: Mechanical Design Manufacture and Automation, Civil Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, and Computer Science and Technology, and plans an annual intake of 280 students, with the standard program length of four years. The college offers two majors for the master’s degree: Mechanical Engineering and Civil and Hydraulic Engineering.

The faculty of the college is composed of foreign expert instructors appointed by JCU, distinguished bilingual professors from Xi’an University of Technology, and first‑rate international academics recruited globally. At least 30% of the faculty are foreign teachers sent by JCU, and the core courses they deliver account for more than one‑third of the college’s total course offerings and instructional hours. All of the college’s principal Chinese instructors have experience studying or conducting research abroad; several are provincial‑level distinguished teachers and heads of provincial first‑class courses, and serve as the principal instructors for the college’s core courses.

International Engineering College of Xi’an University of Technology aims to develop elites pillars of society who meet the needs of intelligent manufacturing, intelligent construction, and sustainable development, can adapt to future technological advances, and possess an international outlook, an innovative spirit, a sense of social responsibility, and strong professional ethics relying on the two universities’ first‑class majors, dominant disciplines, and superior educational resources and focusing on the training directions of “intelligent manufacturing” and “intelligent construction”.

Training Mode

The core of teaching approach is "diverse teaching".

Over one-third of the core courses are directly introduced from our partner university, JCU, and are delivered in English by JCU faculty, ensuring the same academic quality and standard as those offered on the JCU campus.

Majors for bachelor’s degree follow a “4+0” mode; the student may also opt for “2+2” or “3+2” modes offered jointly with partner universities depending on their preference.

“4+0”

Under the “4+0” mode, students complete all four years of study at Xi'an University of Technology. Upon satisfying the relevant requirements, students will be awarded an undergraduate diploma and a bachelor‘s degree certificate from Xi'an University of Technology.
“2+2”

Under the “2+2”mode, students study at Xi'an University of Technology for two years and then continue their studies in Australia for the remaining two years. Upon meeting the relevant requirements, students will receive two undergraduate qualifications (an undergraduate diploma and a bachelor‘s degree certificate from Xi'an University of Technology, and a (Honors) bachelor‘s degree certificate from JCU, Australia) and will be eligible to apply directly for one‑year master's programs in similar fields at top universities in Australia; students who attain a first-class honors bachelor's degree may apply directly for fully funded doctoral degree at a world-renowned university in Australia.
“3+2”

Under the “3+2” mode, students study at Xi'an University of Technology for three years and then continue their studies in Australia for the remaining two years; upon meeting the relevant requirements, students will receive an undergraduate diploma and a bachelor‘s degree certificate from Xi'an University of Technology, and a bachelor‘s degree certificate from JCU, Australia.
