Founded in 1958, the School of Automation and Information Engineering is one of the colleges at Xi'an University of Technology with the longest history and the largest number of students. The school consists of four teaching units: the Department of Information and Control Engineering, Department of Electronic Engineering, Department of Communication Engineering, and the Teaching and Experimental Center for Circuit, Electronics and Electrotechnics, offers eight majors for bachelor’s degree: Automation, Electronic Information Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Intelligent Control, Robotics Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Microelectronics Science and Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated Systems, and Communication Engineering.
The school currently has two post-doctoral research stations in the Electronic Science and Technology and Control Science and Engineering (first-level discipline); two doctoral degree programs in Control Science and Engineering and Electronic Science and Technology (first-level discipline); two professional doctoral degree programs in Electronic Information and Mechanical Engineering; and three master's degree programs in Control Science and Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, and Communication and Information Systems (first-level discipline), covering all majors for bachelor’s degree. Control Science and Engineering and Electronic Science and Technology are both key and predominant disciplines in Shaanxi Province, and in the latest discipline evaluation, they ranked among the top 20% and top 40% nationwide, respectively. Automation, Electronic Science and Technology, and Communication Engineering have been selected as the national first‑class demonstration point for the bachelor’s degree; Microelectronics Science and Engineering has been selected as the provincial first‑class demonstration point for the bachelor’s degree; and three majors have passed China’s engineering education accreditation.
The school currently has 209 faculties, including 25 doctoral advisors, 33 professors, and 45 associate professors. It has 1 nationally recognized teaching master, 1 nationally outstanding teacher, 2 experts receiving special allowances from the State Council, 8 provincial distinguished teachers, and more than 20 faculty members selected for various provincial or ministerial talent programs. The school has been recognized as an Advanced Collective in the National Education System.
It has 1 national-level teaching team, 6 national-level excellent courses or first-class courses, 1 national-level experimental teaching demonstration center, and 1 national-level engineering practice education center. In recent years, it has won 14 national- and provincial-level teaching achievement awards. Students have achieved excellent results in competitions, including 1 national gold award in the “Challenge Cup,” 17 other national-level awards, 40 national-level awards in the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition, and more than 100 national-level awards in competitions such as mathematical modeling and electronic design. The undergraduate employment rate has remained above 90% for many consecutive years, and graduates are highly sought after by well-known employers such as Huawei, ZTE, SMIC, and the 771st Research Institute of the Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
The school has established 16 research platforms at the provincial/ministerial level or above, including the National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Crystal Growth Equipment and System Integration. It successfully developed China’s first complete 12-inch electronic-grade silicon single-crystal growth system, addressing critical “bottleneck” challenges. Over the past three years, its annual average research funding has exceeded RMB 70 million, and it has won 1 Second Prize of the National Technological Invention Award and 5 Second Prizes at the provincial or ministerial level. The school has established cooperative relationships with nearly ten universities in countries such as the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom, and has jointly built laboratories with internationally renowned companies such as Rockwell and Emerson. It also offers multiple enterprise-sponsored scholarships, achieving continuous deepening of foreign exchanges and cooperation.
