School of Civil Engineering and Architecture

The School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Xi’an University of Technology traces its origins to the Department of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering of Northwest Engineering College founded in 1937. The school offers 7 majors for bachelor’s degree: Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Engineering Mechanics, Architecture, Urban Underground Space Engineering, Intelligent Construction, and Civil Engineering (International Program). It hosts a postdoctoral research station in Civil Engineering, and is authorized to confer the doctoral degree in Civil Engineering (first‑level discipline), a professional doctoral degree in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering, a doctoral degree in Mechanics and Architecture (first‑level discipline), and a professional degree in Master of Engineering Management (MEM).

The school currently has 2 jointly appointed academicians and 153 faculties. It includes 29 professors, 52 associate professors, and 56 lecturers; 33 doctoral advisors and 77 master’s advisors. The faculty have received honors such as National Outstanding Teacher, National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker, “Hundred Talents Program” of CAS, the Young Faculty Award of Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation, Shaanxi Provincial Teaching Master, Shaanxi Provincial Hundred Talents Program and other talents recognized at provincial and ministerial level and above, totaling 30 awards/appointments.

With strong academic capacity and excellent facilities, the school has national experimental teaching demonstration centers, national key laboratories, provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, provincial key laboratories, and discipline innovation and talent introduction bases. Over the past five years, the school has won 2 second prizes for National Teaching Achievement, 3 first prizes and 1 second prize for Provincial Teaching Achievement, and developed 4 national first‑class undergraduate courses as well as 6 provincial flagship courses (including Shaanxi first‑class undergraduate courses, Shaanxi model courses for ideological and political education, and Shaanxi featured online courses). It has been awarded 72 national projects, initiated over 800 new research projects, and received research funding of RMB 210 million, published more than 900 high‑quality academic papers, published over 40 monographs/textbooks; led or contributed to 14 national standards and industry codes, granted over 100 national invention patents, and received 16 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, including the First Prize for Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology. In recent years, the school has hosted or co‑hosted more than 10 high‑level national academic conferences and undertaken major national infrastructure research and production tasks, such as Sichuan‑Tibet Railway, the Hanjiang-to-Weihe River Water Diversion Project, and Xi’an Metro, and relevant outcomes and applications have been reported by national media including China Central Television.

It adheres to the educational philosophy of “student‑centered education and unity of moral knowledge and practice,” and attaches importance to the teaching of foundational theories and the cultivation of engineering practice skills. It has co‑operated with the Northwest Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to run an “Elite Leadership Program” for joint undergraduate training, signed undergraduate joint‑training agreements with the University of Wolverhampton (UK) and the University of Limerick (Ireland), and collaborated with JCU (Australia) to recruit civil engineering students at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Graduates enjoy smooth employment channels and are well received by employers.
