To further expand international academic exchange channels and enhance the internationalized training of students, the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Xi’an University of Technology organized a one-week academic study visit to the University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia, from December 15 to 21. The delegation consisted of 11 postgraduate students and was led by Chen Yaqin, Foreign Affairs Secretary of the School.
Upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr. Ramesh A/L T. Subramaniam, Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Malaya, along with the Vice Dean and representatives of faculty members and students. During the welcoming session, both sides reviewed the existing foundation of cooperation in student exchange and academic collaboration between the two universities and expressed their shared expectation that the study visit would further promote academic interaction among young scholars and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
At the “Xi’an University of Technology–University of Malaya International Academic Symposium on Civil Engineering and Architecture,” faculty members and students from both universities conducted in-depth discussions on key disciplinary topics and research practices. Participants from Xi’an University of Technology presented their research progress in areas including structural optimization, innovative geotechnical engineering, and municipal engineering practices, and engaged in extensive academic exchanges with scholars from the University of Malaya in related research fields.
During the study visit, the University of Malaya organized a series of specialized courses and academic lectures covering topics such as the application of artificial intelligence in civil engineering, advanced research methodologies in engineering, and professional English language enhancement. Through lectures, case studies, and interactive discussions, instructors shared international research advancements and practical experience in relevant fields with the visiting students and faculty members. In addition, the delegation visited cultural landmarks in Kuala Lumpur and Malacca, gaining first-hand insights into Malaysia’s multicultural background and the historical development of cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia.
At the conclusion of the program, the University of Malaya awarded completion certificates to members of the Xi’an University of Technology delegation. Participating students and faculty members noted that the study visit significantly broadened their academic perspectives and enhanced their cross-cultural communication competencies. The program, integrating academic seminars, coursework, and cultural exchange activities, represents an important initiative in deepening cooperation between Xi’an University of Technology and Malaysian universities.
The University of Malaya is one of the oldest higher education institutions in Malaysia and was ranked 58th in the QS World University Rankings 2025. Several of its disciplines, including Engineering and Technology, Computer Science, and Accounting and Finance, are ranked among the top 100 globally. The university maintains academic collaboration with world-renowned institutions such as Stanford University and the University of Tokyo, with its academic influence extending worldwide. In recent years, Xi’an University of Technology and the University of Malaya have continuously promoted student exchange cooperation. Building upon their respective disciplinary strengths, both universities plan to further expand student exchange and joint training programs in areas including engineering technology, artificial intelligence, energy science, and business administration, thereby enhancing the international talent cultivation system.
