On November 13, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and Professor at the Technion–Israel Institute of Technology, Dan Shechtman, visited Xi’an University of Technology. President Liu Yunhe met with Professor Shechtman in the First Reception Room.
Liu Yunhe warmly welcomed Professor Shechtman on his return visit and expressed sincere gratitude for his long-standing support for the university’s development. He noted that through scientific research collaboration, academic lectures, and related activities, Professor Shechtman has provided strong momentum for the university’s scientific innovation and international exchange initiatives. During the meeting, Liu introduced the university’s recent development achievements. In terms of major research platform construction, the university successfully secured approval for the State Key Laboratory of Eco-Environmental Engineering in Arid Regions, significantly enhancing the level of its scientific research and innovation platforms. In the area of industry–education integration and institutional reform, the university established 13 new academic and research institutions, including the School of Excellence in Engineering, and took the lead in forming the Shaanxi Collaborative Innovation Alliance for the Key Industrial and Disciplinary Chain of Deep Processing of Aluminum, Magnesium, and Molybdenum, further strengthening the coordinated talent cultivation mechanism integrating industry, academia, and research. Liu emphasized that the university is currently at a critical stage of advancing its “Double First-Class” development goals and will continue to focus on high-level disciplinary development and international research collaboration. He expressed hope that, with Professor Shechtman’s continued support, the university will further enhance the efficiency of research outcome commercialization, improve the cultivation of young scholars, and deepen international scientific cooperation.
Professor Shechtman expressed appreciation for the university’s warm reception and highly commended the university’s development achievements. He noted that the global landscape of scientific and technological innovation is undergoing profound transformation, and that talent cultivation and breakthroughs in advanced technologies have become key drivers of economic and social development. Drawing on his academic experience and practical cases, he emphasized the critical role of technological advancement and research commercialization in higher education. By sharing his experience in developing innovation and entrepreneurship education programs and research project incubation models, he provided valuable insights for the reform and advancement of innovation and entrepreneurship education at Xi’an University of Technology.
During his visit, Professor Shechtman is scheduled to tour key laboratories at the university and conduct in-depth academic discussions with the research team led by Professor Xu Chunjie from the School of Materials Science and Engineering.
