According to the latest data released on July 9, 2026 by Essential Science Indicators (ESI), the Physics discipline of Xi’an University of Technology (XUT) has entered the top 1% of the ESI global rankings for the first time, becoming the eighth discipline of the University to enter the ESI top 1%.
Currently, XUT has eight disciplines ranked among the top 1% globally in ESI, namely Engineering, Materials Science, Environment/Ecology, Computer Science, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Geoscience, and Physics. Among them, Engineering has entered the top 1‰ globally in ESI. During the current ESI statistical period, covering data from January 1, 2016 to April 30, 2026, a total of 1,041 institutions worldwide entered the top 1% in Physics. XUT ranked 1,016th globally, with a percentile ranking of 97.60%. In the field of Physics, the University published 1,383 SCIE/SSCI-indexed papers, which received 19,411 citations, with an average of 14.04 citations per paper, including 28 highly cited papers.
Over the years, XUT has consistently taken disciplinary development as a leading priority, steadily advancing the construction of first-class disciplines. The University has actively followed academic frontiers, served major national strategies, integrated disciplinary strengths and resources, and promoted interdisciplinary integration. As a result, its disciplinary characteristics and advantages have become increasingly prominent, and its core competitiveness and international influence have been significantly enhanced. Moving forward, the University will continue to align itself with major national needs and global scientific frontiers, accelerate interdisciplinary integration, further strengthen organized research, and focus on key, emerging, and interdisciplinary fields. It will continue to enhance its research capacity and international influence, striving to build itself into a first-class, high-level research university in China with distinctive characteristics and international impact.
ESI, or Essential Science Indicators, systematically evaluates global research performance and development trends based on articles, reviews, and citation data from the Web of Science Core Collection over the past decade. It is widely regarded as a key indicator for measuring the academic level and international influence of universities and research institutions, as well as an important international benchmark for assessing disciplinary strength.
