On May 11, a delegation led by Todd Burton, Associate Dean of the College of Arts, Technology and Environment at the University of the West of England, visited Xi’an University of Technology. Vice President Dong Xiaobing met with the delegation in the First Reception Room. The two sides held in-depth discussions on inter-university cooperation and reached consensus on deepening existing collaboration and expanding cooperation fields.
Dong Xiaobing welcomed Todd Burton and the delegation, and introduced the University’s basic profile in terms of history, disciplinary layout, research platforms, and international exchange. He noted that XUT has long been rooted in fields such as water resources and hydropower engineering as well as equipment manufacturing, and has continuously advanced the opening-up of education in recent years, establishing extensive cooperative relationships with overseas universities and research institutions. He expressed the hope that the visit would serve as an opportunity to further promote sincere cooperation between the two universities and produce substantive outcomes in talent cultivation, disciplinary exchange, and related areas.
Todd Burton expressed appreciation for the University’s reception and introduced the development, disciplinary characteristics, and talent cultivation model of the University of the West of England. He stated that the University of the West of England attaches great importance to exchanges and cooperation with Chinese universities and looks forward to further enhancing mutual understanding through the visit, carrying out more in-depth communication in relevant disciplinary fields, and promoting the establishment of a long-term and stable cooperative relationship between the two universities.
During the visit, the delegation toured laboratories of relevant schools and the Engineering Training Center, gaining first-hand knowledge of XUT’s experimental teaching platforms, engineering practice facilities, and talent cultivation environment. The delegation also held a cooperation discussion meeting with XUT, during which the two sides exchanged views on talent cultivation, disciplinary cooperation, faculty and student exchanges, and follow-up cooperation mechanisms.
The University of the West of England is located in Bristol, the United Kingdom, and has a solid educational foundation in fields such as engineering technology, environment, design, and architecture. Building upon the sound cooperation foundation established previously by the two sides, this visit further enhanced mutual understanding, consolidated cooperation outcomes, and laid a stronger foundation for multi-level and wide-ranging inter-university exchanges in the future.
