On June 14, a delegation of more than ten experts visited Xi’an University of Technology, including Brent Clothier, Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Professor Hu Wei, Vice President of the New Zealand–China Science and Technology Education Association; Professor Brendon Malcolm from Plant & Food Research New Zealand; and Professor Muhammad Aamer Maqsood from the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. Vice President Dong Xiaobing met with the delegation in the First Reception Room, and the two sides held in-depth discussions on deepening cooperation in multiple fields.
Dong Xiaobing welcomed the delegation and briefly introduced the University’s history, disciplinary layout, research platforms, and international cooperation. He noted that agricultural science, soil environment, and ecological governance are among the University’s key research directions. He expressed the hope that the meeting would serve as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation, focusing on green and sustainable development of the ecological environment, dryland agriculture, circular agriculture, and related fields, while jointly carrying out theoretical research and technological innovation.
Brent Clothier expressed appreciation for the University’s warm reception and reviewed previous research cooperation between the two sides. He noted that technology and talent are core supports for ecological governance, and that the research directions of both sides are highly aligned, with broad prospects for cooperation. He expressed the hope that both sides would jointly form collaborative research teams, continuously promote talent cultivation, faculty exchanges, and research project cooperation, and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. He also planned to apply his accumulated overseas experience in desert ecological governance to desertification control and oasis protection in China.
